“Keira”

Keira came into my life as a horse to train for sale when I was living in Montana. I had the pleasure of riding a couple of Mrs. Lucy's horses and they were all amazing, but as soon as I met Keira... my heart skipped a beat and I fell in love immediately. Before Keira, I really didn't like mares. Like, not even a little. Keira taught me the value of a great mare – an appreciation for something that will give you their whole heart, but you have to earn it, and once you have it you must keep it. There's nothing better than a great mare, and Keira is one of the greats a million times over.

I remember our first rides. She was so game – willing, fun, and her gaits were like nothing I'd ever ridden before. I knew from the moment I sat on her that I wanted her so badly. I had no clue or ability on how to make that happen – but somehow, right before I moved, I was able to purchase her and take her with me.

We went to Florida, where I was a working student for an amazing USPC National Examiner, Bunny. It was amazing and such a great opportunity. We got to show a little in dressage, and Keira always brought her game face. In the few shows we did, she was scoring in the high-70s at Training Level. I then had the opportunity to move closer to home to spend more time with my grandma, Wuzzie. We continued to work; her gaits were developing and she was getting so strong. I didn't have time to compete, but training was fun all the same. She gave me an appreciation for the finer details and feeling it all really click.

From there, we moved to Ocala, Florida, to manage Totum Hill Farms and work for Ashley of Ashland Equestrian – an opportunity of a lifetime, and some of the best years of my life. Miss Keira came along and we started to move towards eventing. She was a natural at cross country, a lot like her daddy, Tim — a powerhouse. We were gearing up for our first event, my first event in about eight years, when she turned up funny; not lame, just different. We gave her a few days off with no change, so out came the vet, and when they couldn't figure it out, they took her to Gainesville. Bone scans, MRI – you name it, we tried it, and still nothing. She was still just off.

After a year of trying to figure it out, I decided to move my plans forward to breed her. She's the best quality of mares, the type you'd love offspring from. I had another horse, Jet, who I had started to ride and compete on, and it just made sense. I searched all over and found Doctor Wendell MF through Hilltop Farms.

The rest is history. Little Demi, PSH Donna Tella, was born and is so much like both her mama and daddy – Keira really grows them right, she got the best from both sides. Next came PSH Vintage Encore, aka Ella, by Vallado, who also turned out amazing. Both very modern and compact with floaty uphill movement and a great inquisitive and passionate mind and temperament.

Keira is one of the sweetest girls you'll ever meet. One of her favorite things are snuggles – she'll let you snuggle for her hours. She loves to have her belly and hips scratched and curried. She's not the biggest cookie monster and much prefers attention. She loves being outside and really isn't a fan of stalls – she tolerates them. She loves trail rides, but most of all, snuggles.

She's the best mommy and babysitter. She loves to find a horse to take care of, and is a fierce protector and mama. I seriously can't think of one miniscule, microscopic bad thing about her. She started my love for breeding and I feel so incredibly blessed she entered my life, all thanks to Lucy Stevenson.

“Demi”

Demi was our first baby – our first home-bred. She has been a princess ham from the day she was born; she never followed mama and had to learn about halters at a day old. She was born in the middle of the day, definitely traumatizing some young pony-clubbers! I had hopes of her being my next dressage partner, but she never really sat right in my brain for that. Something always just felt off.

We started her when she turned four and she was very smart, trustworthy, and careful. She is very sensitive to ground changes; when she was a couple weeks old, she somehow stepped on a pitchfork and it came right up and wacked her square in the face – ever since then, she's been super careful of her feet. While it slowed her down being started, and is something that's always a factor in her training, it's proven to aid her in the big picture.

When it became clear she didn't want to be a dressage horse, and she was pretty small at 16 hands, we changed gears and consulted Lani Homan Taylor of GPH Equestrian about selling her as an event horse. Lani took some time and assessed her, worked with her, and they seemed to really click. I was enjoying watching them and being invited into eventing again with all the behind-the-scenes fun, and so the seed was planted in my brain to become an owner and see how far they'd go. Lani and Demi are coming into their third year together and looking great.

Just like her mama, Demi will snuggle almost all day. She likes to take long afternoon naps and go out to be groomed. She is super opinionated, but not unreasonable, and is kind and wants to work for her person. She wants to do things her way, and is slowly coming around to the idea that Lani’s way works out better!

We hope to eventually use her in our embryo transfer program so Demi can keep training and make us some really fun and beautiful babies, but Demi is currently carrying her own baby by Encognito, due in Spring 2024.

Jazzy Phizzle PSH

“Jazz”

Jazz is sweet, athletic, and fun, with amazing conformation and an amazing temperament. We acquired her from Kelsie and Jeremy when she began having some issues that would make her uncomfortable under saddle, and we're so thankful they trusted us with her. We had Jazz as a boarded horse for about six months before she became ours, and her sweetness always stood out to me.

She would always come right over to say hi, even with no promise of treats, just because she loved people. She was happy in the barn, never grumpy or "mareish"; just a really pleasant girl to have around.

Jazz is riding sound, and has had two healthy and complication free pregnancies. She had her first RIDSH baby, PSH Charmed I'm Sure, by Cappa Irish Charmer in 2022, and PSH Cygnus by Cyan Night in 2023. She has made the perfect baby mama, and her conformation and temperament perfectly compliment the Irish Draughts.

She is a little quirky under saddle, but just requires a quiet rider who is patient and needs a good saddle fit. Jazz has good ground manners and is one that the kiddos go get from the field! She would make a great broodmare, recipient mare, or riding partner for the right fit.
